A Conflict of Magic

A fifth day. I wasn't in the mood.
A fifth day on a Saturday. I would have said "No way!" But being the kind-hearted boy I am I accepted to work over time to help out a badly staffed team.

Today was the PRESS EVENT for Mickey's Magical Party, which begins next week; at Disneyland Resort Paris. The parks were full of photographers snapping every angle, journalists with their Blackberries, film crews.... and the VIPs.

It was rumored and confirmed that Phil Collins; Italian footballer, Cannavarro; French rugby player Chabal; with a variety of other French celebs (I don't know) were present at the Walt Disney Studios.

It was rumoured with no confirmation that Will Smith was also on French soil, at the Kingdom of Magic.

The presence of VIP Guides, whose presence on the parks is as rare as their costumes' beauty were out in overwhelming numbers.

Bizarrely the celebs and guided VIPs were invited to the park, and that means they didn't pay a cent to experience the magic. Free hotelling at the prestigous Disneyland Hotel, free private guide (for each member of the family if neccassary! I saw a little girl with her own guide!)- they usually cost 400Eur/hour (hence their rare presence on the parks). And all other VIP treatment entirely for free.

Ordinary guests had to pay no less than 59Eur (for one day) and were restricted from many things. Due to the high presence of VIPs, all the best seats for all the theatrical shows were reserved, including the new parade.

I find that highly unfair. But then again it forms part of the Disney Marketing Stragtey. Word will travel fast that Phil Collins (& co.) celebrated Mickey's 80th Anniversary at Disneyland Paris.
