You learn to ignore the crowd, although at its heart

case in point: The French are crowd people. The idea of lining up in a single file to queue up for something is American (to the French). Thus crowds in France are a common occurance. People pushing, shouting and thrusting to be the first. Frist time experience of this barbaric ritual is shocking, coming from the citizens of such posh-endowed civilisation. You'd think that you would never be able to live with the French after seeing such an act-- but not after you've spent enough time with them.
